"MTK also played a major role in the success of the legendary Hungary team known as the Mighty Magyars. It was also at MTK that Bukovi together with, Péter Palotás and Nándor Hidegkuti, also pioneered the crucial deep lying centre-forward position".( Wikipedia )

OtpBankLiga Day 2 review

During the weekend day 2 of the OtpBankLiga took place, here's the complete set of results:

Match day 2 confirmed that Ferencvaros are by far the best team in this beginning of the season, the victory against Diosgyor could have been way larger. Fradi scores at will with different players as the attacking game play involves all the team, this is a very important feature that will be very useful troughout the season if they keep playing like this. The elimination from Europa League has to be seen as an advantage, as crazy as it may sound, for a club that now has only one goal on the table.
Honved shares the top of the table as well, thanks to a heavy success against city rivals MTK, yes they struggle and yes the winner came late in the game but the persistence with which they chased it, it is good news for Marco Rossi's squad.
Ujpest won the other derby of the day against Vasas. The 1-3 final scores is probably too severe for the red and blues as they pushed to score all 90 minutes. Their problems lie in defence. Ujpest redeemed itself from the 0-0 home game against Paksi last week thanks to David, Salloi and Sankovic and versus Bekescsaba they will have a chance to make their table even better.
Paksi trashed Bekescsaba, and although the final scores of 4-0 materialized only in the last 20 minutes, the game was never an even contest.
The biggest surprise of the day was Haladas away victory in Fehervar against Videoton thanks to an unfortunate Juhasz own goal. To be fair, Vidi didn't deserve to lose, but probably Champions League 3rd round against BATE tonight, affected players minds therefore bringing lack of concentration.
Precious tie game for Puskas FC thanks to a stunning Laszlo Pekar goal from outside the box, the stop for Debrecen came as a surprise after the 9 goals scored in Europa League few days before. Perhaps the European cup drained Loki's energy but they
better get in good shape for Thursday match against Rosenborg.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Honved-MTK
Paksi-Bekescsaba
Videoton-Haladas
Vasas-Ujpest
Debrecen-PuskasFC
Ferencvaros-Diosgyor

The new ranking portraits Fradi and Honved on top, followed by Paksi,Ujpest and Debrecen. Videoton still at the bottom with newly promoted Vasas and Bekescsaba with 0 points.

Next round biggest game will be Honved vs Debrecen and of course Budapest derby Vasas vs Fradi.
In the middle of the ranking Bekescsaba and MTK will try to get points to reach the high zones.

European Cups

European cups in these days, Videoton in Uefa Champions League and Debrecen and Ferencvaros in UEFA Europa League were busy trying to go through the international competitions.

The team from Székesfehérvár had a great advantage as they were facing Welsh side The New Saints strong of the 0-1 victory obtained in the UK one week earlier. Unfortunately disappointed fans saw their team playing a shallow game, never trying to impose their gameplay and limiting their actions to a useless passing game that eventually led to a TNS goal, therefore prolonging the contest to Extra Time. There, it was the usual Gyurcso to solve the pickle, scoring the goal that sends Videoton through the third round.
In the end the score matters and Vidi are still in the biggest european competion, but better change their attitude next round when they will face a very difficult task playing against FC BATE Borisov from Bielorus.
HIGHLIGHTS

In UEFA Europa League, Ferencvaros had a difficult game having lost first leg home by 0-1. The match turned out to be a Waterloo for Fradi, still not ready for the kind of pressure and commitment that such competions demand. Defeated 2-0 by Zeljeznicar, the hungarians get out of Europe football wise, hoping to turn the bad outcome into a positive load of experince next time they walk the field in a european cup.
HIGHLIGHTS

Triumph for Debrecen as they trashed Latvian side Skonto Riga 9-2!! All right opposition wasn't challenging enough and it is still a preliminary round, yet DVSC's performane brought back to memory that famous 10-1 that a sparkling Hungarian national team imposed to El Salvador in the 1982 WC in Spain.
Load of self awareness for "Loki", they look like Hungary's best hope to reach the Group phase after so many years. Well done guys!
Next match will be against Norwegian team  Rosenborg BK, in these days far away relative of the strong side of the early 2000's.

OtpBankLiga Day 1 review

During the weekend day 1 of the OtpBankLiga took place, here's the complete set of results:

No surprises in the first round of the league if you consider Videoton not at their last season standards right now. Newly promoted Bekescsaba went close to a stunning victory against Debrecen, up 2-1 they saw their opponent coming back and in the last minute, thanks to a freekick by Korhut, securing a very important away victory. Last minute goal for Ferencvaros as well with new comer Sestak, sealing the 3 points and bringing a convincing 0-2 success back home, they definitely look like one the favourites for final victory. Defeat for Vasas in their first game in NB1 after the promotion, the Budapest team got the lead but couldn't hold it long as Diosgyor scored twice ( Grumic - Gruz's own goal ) and won the game 2-1.
Three points for MTK as well thanks to Torghelle, as they hope to repeat the last brilliant season. Scoreless tie between Ujpest and Paksi, they will get a chance to do better next round.

Highlights:
Ujpest-Paksi
MTK-Puskas FC
Diosgyor-Vasas
Honved-Videoton
Haladas-Ferencvaros
Bekescsaba-Debrecen

Therefore the first ranking of the season in quite simple, top of the table for Fradi because of goals difference, followed by Debrecen, Diosgyor, Honved and MTK.

Next round will be played in the weekend of the 25th and 26th of  July. Two Budapest derbies will fire the passion: MTK-Honved and Vasas-Ujpest, top of the table clash between Ferencvaros and Diosgyor. The full schedule:

Teams ID: Debreceni VSC

Debreceni Vasutas Sport Club is a Hungarian League professional football club, based in Debrecen.[1] They are best known internationally for reaching the group stages of the UEFA Champions League 2009–10 season.[2] Debrecen have been the most successful club since 2000 by winning the Hungarian League seven times.

The team plays in a 20.000 seats stadium : The Nagyerdei Stadion
"Debrecen played their home matches between 1989 and 2014 at the Stadium Oláh Gábor út, which has a capacity of 12,500. After winning the first Nemzeti Bajnokság I trophy, it was found that the stadium did not meet UEFA stadium criteria. Therefore, the most important UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches had to be played either at the Ferenc Puskás Stadium as in 2009-10 UEFA Champions League group stage and the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League group stage.
On 1 May 2014, the Nagyerdei stadium was opened with an inauguration ceremony." ( Wikipedia )
